Mahavir Jayanti 2023 : Jains indeed believe that Jainism is an eternal religion that has been guided by Tirthankaras in every cycle of the Jain cosmology. Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated by the community to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, who is considered the founder of Jainism and the 24th Tirthankara of the religion.

Mahavir Jayanti 2023 : History and Significance
Lord Mahavir was born in Kundalagrama Bihar on the 13th day of the waxing moon. In the Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. The Swetambar Jains believe that Mahavir was born in 599 BC. While the Digambar Jains believe that he was born in 615 BC.
At the age of 30, Mahavir renounced his crown and all his worldly possessions in search of a spiritual path. He spent 12 years in exile as an ascetic, meditating and leading an austere life. Away from all worldly pleasures, before attaining ‘Kevala Jnana,’ or omniscience. This is why he was also called Sage Vardhamana. Mahavir preached non-violence (ahimsa), which was the central principle of his teachings. He also emphasized other virtues such as satya (truth), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (chastity), and aparigraha (non-attachment).
Mahavir’s main disciple, Indrabhuti Gautama, compiled his teachings. Mahavir was known for his exceptional control over his senses and his pursuit of truth and spiritual freedom. He attained enlightenment (Nirvana) at the age of 72, which marked the end of his physical existence.
